The Oak Society Reception on Nov. 2 will recognize Fred Weitz and Toni and Tim Urban as the Oakridge Neighborhood’s 2023 Oak Society honorees. Weitz served on the Oakridge Neighborhood board of directors and played a key role in the original building of the housing development in the late 1960s. He also helped lead the expansion of the Oakridge campus footprint with the construction of the neighborhood’s Variety Center, which houses administrative offices, Oak Academy preschool, afterschool and out-of-school youth programming, and adult workforce initiatives. Tim Urban chaired the fundraising committee to build the Community Center on the Oakridge campus and helped lead the design/build process. Toni Urban donated gifts, clothing and supplies from her store, Letter Perfect, for Oakridge residents and children. To register for the Oak Society Reception, which will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Foundry in West Des Moines, email Kristin Littlejohn at klittlejohn@oakridgeneighborhood.org or call 515-244-7702.
