Trader Joe’s opening draws dozens
About 100 shoppers were on hand this morning as Traders Joe’s opened for business for the first time at the Galleria in West Des Moines. Many of the early arrivals waited in their cars for the Monrovia, Calif.-based company to unlock the doors of its new store at 6305 Mills Civic Parkway. Trader Joe’s, which operates about 350 stores in 28 states, sells wine, beer and a number of private-label foods. Iowa-themed murals portraying images of the Iowa State Fair, Terrace Hill and the state Capitol are featured on the store’s interior walls. Traders Joe’s was founded in 1958 in the Los Angeles area.
