Owners of land in Cherokee County that developers of the Bakken crude oil pipeline want for the project filed two lawsuits Friday attempting to block condemnation, The Des Moines Register reported. The litigation is important because there are 1,295 properties along the 346-mile pipeline route in Iowa, and the company so far has failed to get voluntary easements on 168 parcels. Dakota Access LLC, a unit of Dallas-based Energy Transfer Partners, has filed applications to use eminent domain to secure access to agricultural land owned by Marvin and Bonnie Zoch and Marian and Verdell Johnson.
