Iowans might notice a slight uptick in costs for rideshares or video-streaming subscriptions as the state’s sales tax on internet purchases begins this month, reports the Des Moines Register. After the Iowa Legislature rewrote the state tax code in 2018, retailers making at least 200 separate transactions in the state are now subject to Iowa’s 6 percent sales tax regardless of whether the company has a brick-and-mortar presence in the state. The revenue department expects to raise $66.7 million in new revenue in fiscal year 2020 from the sales tax changes.
