After a successful turnout for a showing of the documentary “Raising the Floor” on Sept. 5, UpLift – the Central Iowa Basic Income Pilot will offer a second viewing beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 at the Varsity Cinema in Des Moines. The 30-minute documentary, featuring the Chelsea Eats pilot program, tells the story of how a community’s path from food insecurity transformed to providing more than 2,000 families with economic stability. After the showing, attendees will be able to participate in a discussion about the Chelsea Eats program and talk about the concepts of basic income and cash transfer programs. The event is part of a series of community conversations to discuss the UpLift basic income pilot and next steps in addressing the needs of low-income families. Registration for the event is available here. UpLift is a cross-sector collaboration that is studying the effects of Central Iowans receiving a basic income.
