Urban Dreams to hold Free Pre-Winter Community Car Checkup on Saturday
Urban Dreams will partner with community organizations and businesses on Saturday for its sixth annual Free Pre-Winter Community Car Checkup. The first 500 vehicles that arrive at North High School, 501 Holcomb Ave. in Des Moines, between 9 a.m. and noon will receive free windshield wiper replacements, battery connector tests, windshield wiper fluid fills, car light bulb replacements, car seat inspections, visual inspections and referrals. Partners in the project include AE Dairy, Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Broadlawns Medical Center, Des Moines Area Community College, the Des Moines Fire Department, the Des Moines Police Department, North High School, the Guardian Project, NAPA, O’Halloran International, the Polk County Health Department, Quality Services Corp., United Way of Central Iowa, Verizon and others. “This is one of our favorite events; it allows outside organizations to come in and authentically help the residents,” said Izaah Knox, Urban Dreams executive director.
