The Urbandale Food Pantry is hosting its third annual Pedal for the Pantry beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday. The three starting locations are Kinship Brewing Co, 255 N.W. Sunrise Drive in Waukee; 515 Brewing Co., 7700 University Ave. in Clive; and Firetrucker Brewery, 716 S.W. Third Ave. in Ankeny. The fundraiser comes during a time when the pantry is experiencing a spike in visitors. In July, 1,380 families visited the pantry, 75% more than in July 2021, according to a news release. “We’re facing unprecedented challenges in stocking our shelves, which means every Pedal for the Pantry rider and every Pedal for the Pantry sponsor is making a very real difference,” Patty Sneddon-Kisting, the pantry’s executive director, said in a prepared statement. Riders choose from three custom routes throughout Polk County with stops along the way at participating breweries, each offering discounts on drinks. Alternatively, riders can participate from the comfort of their favorite trail. For more information or to register, click here.
