Variety – the Children’s Charity of Iowa has canceled its annual Polo on the Green fundraiser because of ongoing concerns with the coronavirus pandemic. The 24th annual event, previously, scheduled for Aug. 8 at Powder River Ranch, will be replaced by a monthlong fundraiser to help children in need. The event has been attended by as many as 500 people in past years. “After cancelling this year’s event, we knew we’d have to be creative when thinking of ways to continue to raise funds. We are extremely grateful for our corporate sponsors who have remained true in their commitment to Variety and for those community members who have donated to the fundraiser so far,” said Ashley Furhmeister, committee co-chair of Polo on the Green, in a news release. Each year, the event conducts a Fund-a-Need campaign, selecting one area of giving to support. This year, through donor-designated giving, Variety is meeting the broader range of needs that children face by directing funds to multiple areas, organizers said in a news release. Donors can direct their donations to specialized bikes, food insecurity, “campership,” school supplies, traditional bikes, and general fund. Donations can be made to Variety’s Polo on the Green fundraiser at poloonthegreen.com.
