According to a news release, Veridian plans to more than double its contributions this year to $90,000, up from $35,000 in 2023. The public can nominate eligible nonprofit organizations now through Nov. 10. The credit union will randomly draw three organizations from each of its five market areas to receive $5,000 each. Veridian’s market areas are the Des Moines area, Cedar Rapids/Iowa City corridor, Omaha/Council Bluffs area, Twin Cities area and Waterloo-Cedar Falls area. An additional nonprofit from any of those market areas will be drawn to receive $15,000. Recipients will be announced on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3. “Veridian was founded 90 years ago on the need to support our communities and the people in them,” Veridian President and CEO Renee Christoffer said in the release. “It’s appropriate for our anniversary celebrations to reflect those values that still guide us today.” To be eligible, nonprofit organizations must work to address one of Veridian’s five funding priorities: affordable housing, basic human needs, diversity, equity and inclusion, employment readiness or financial literacy.
