Central Iowa’s office landscape continues to change. Vacancy rates are stabilizing and even declining. Projects are planned to convert some of the remaining vacant office space into residential or amenities to bring people back to the workplace, and the look of downtown Des Moines will continue to change in the coming years. The city of Des Moines’ move away from the riverfront, planned reuse of some of the historic buildings, and developers eyeing possible projects to complement the continued development of the ICON Water Trails sites all could transform the future of those properties as the commercial landscape continues to evolve.

At the Business Record’s Project515 virtual event, panelists shared updates on the state of the office sector and opportunities for the future.

Carrie Kruse, economic development administrator, city of Des Moines
