Volunteer Iowa receives grant to study after-school activities
Volunteer Iowa has received a grant to study ways to expand after-school opportunities for youths on a statewide level. Iowa was one of eight states to receive mini-grants of $12,500 from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation in partnership with America’s Service Commissions. The foundation awarded a $250,000 grant to ASC for a multiyear initiative to identify how the state service commission network can expand after-school opportunities through national service, such as AmeriCorps. The mini-grant funding will allow Volunteer Iowa to study some of the challenges programs encounter and determine if national service is an effective solution in both urban and rural settings.
