Volunteers from the Food Bank of Iowa, Fareway and the Murphy Foundation packaged 2,000 springtime meal boxes on Tuesday that will be distributed to families in need throughout the Des Moines public school system. According to a news release, each meal box contains a ham, Bisquick baking mix, potatoes au gratin, canned pineapple, canned corn, Jell-O and a brownie mix. A $120,000 donation from the Murphy Foundation supported the meal boxes. Remaining funds will allow Food Bank of Iowa to order an additional 12 pallets of Bisquick, eight pallets of instant potatoes, and eight pallets of canned corn to go into its inventory to serve pantries in its 55-county area.
