The West Des Moines Plan and Zoning Commission this week approved a request to rezone land at 225 and 301 Grand Ave. to allow the construction of a new Wendy’s fast-food restaurant. The restaurant will be located in an area now occupied by Erik’s Bike Shop, whose owners are constructing a new facility at First Street and Ashworth Road. The existing bike shop building will be razed to accommodate the widening of Grand Avenue between First and Fourth streets. Owners of the Wendy’s also plan to tear down the exiting restaurant and build a new one that will be located on the two parcels. The rezoning request will be considered by the West Des Moines City Council at its April 19 meeting.
