Brian Litchfield, DART’s chief development officer, said the council asked DART to come back tonight (Monday) for a council work session because only three council members were in attendance at last Monday’s meeting.
The city is contemplating an agreement with DART that would extend bus routes through town and make Waukee the first city outside Polk County to accept service from the transit agency.
Litchfield said DART would prefer to have Waukee join the authority, but it can simply contract with DART to provide service without actually joining. Cities not opting to join the authority would pay higher rates for bus service, Litchfield said.
DART is also in discussions with Indianola about adding service to that community, but those talks are also in their very early stages.
Representatives from DART are expected to give their presentation to the council at a work session tonight at 7 p.m. at Waukee City Hall. As of press time, it was not clear if the meeting would go on as scheduled or be canceled due to lack of quorum.
