Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s Wellmark Foundation is donating to help four Iowa school districts that have confronted natural disasters this year recover, according to a news release. Flooding and tornadoes produced unexpected costs in the Rock Valley, Spencer, Nodaway Valley and Tri-Center school districts; the Wellmark Foundation’s donations will fill the gap for costs not covered by insurance and federal and state aid. Rock Valley and Spencer were devastated by flooding this summer; tornadoes hit Greenfield, in the Nodaway Valley district, and Minden, part of the Tri-Center district, in the spring. “We are in awe of the resilience of these communities and are proud to stand by the students, teachers and administrators as they work toward a stronger future,” Laura Jackson, executive vice president of health equity, access and improvement and chair of the Wellmark Foundation Board of Directors, said in a prepared statement. The total donations are nearly $500,000.
