Two Central Iowa bank holding companies rank among the top 20 in the country for their asset size. Bank Director magazine ranked West Bancorporation Inc. of West Des Moines No. 9 and Ames National Corp. in Ames No. 17 among the 166 publicly traded banks with assets of between $1 billion and $5 billion. Bank Director considers banking operations in that asset range to be community banks. The rankings were based on five measures related to profitability, capitalization and asset quality. Hills Bancorp. ranked fifth and MidWestOne Financial Group Inc. of Iowa City ranked No. 63. Meta Financial Group Inc., based in Sioux Falls, S.D., with operations in Greater Des Moines, ranked No. 108.
