Diana Wilson, one of a few women in the country to lead a water utility when she was named general manager of West Des Moines Water Works in 2013, has resigned to take the general manager role with a Florida water utility. She will leave West Des Moines Water Works on Jan. 18. The West Des Moines Water Works board will launch a national search for Wilson’s replacement. In the meantime, Josh Heggen, the utility’s business relations manager, will fill in as interim general manager. The board hopes to appoint a general manager by mid-2019. “In an industry that’s overwhelmingly male, Diana set a new bar for performance and work ethic, while successfully taking on major challenges,” Brian Rickert, chairman of the West Des Moines Water Works board, said in a statement. Wilson joined the West Des Moines water utility in 2010 as a project manager and led the utility’s expansion south of Iowa Highway 5. Heggen has served as West Des Moines Water Works’ business relations manager since February 2015 and worked closely with Wilson to automate the metering and billing functions. He is not seeking the permanent general manager position. Read more about Wilson at BusinessRecord.com.
