Wilwerding named Johnston assistant city administrator

David Wilwerding, who has worked at the city of Johnston since 2002, has been named the city’s assistant city manager. Wilwerding is currently Johnston’s community development director. In his new position, Wilwerding will oversee the city’s community development, public works and parks departments. He will also work with City Administrator Mike Pogge-Weaver to set and execute the city’s strategic goals and priorities, and help lead in the development of Johnston’s capital improvements program. Wilwerding has a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University in community and regional planning and a master’s degree in public administration from Drake University. Wilwerding, who will be paid $180,000 annually, starts his new position Aug. 4. The city will begin looking for a new community development director, according to a news release.
