Woodhouse stepped into the interim executive director role while YWRC’s board of directors conducted a search for its next leader.

She succeeds Kari Zimmerman, who became YWRC executive director in 2020.

“Following a thorough search, including interviews with several strong candidates, we are delighted to welcome Rachel as our new executive director,” said Ka’Meka Lowery, president of the YWRC board of directors, in a prepared statement. “Rachel’s experience, skills and passion are well matched to the needs of the organization. Her leadership — along with the hard work and dedication of our entire staff — will ensure girls and young women can continue to count on the YWRC for the support and advocacy they need to pursue and achieve their goals.”

Woodhouse has more than 10 years of experience in philanthropy and supporting Iowa nonprofit organizations, a news release said. Most recently, she was the program manager for the Principal Foundation and Principal community relations. She’s also worked for Bravo Greater Des Moines and Des Moines Performing Arts.
